The construction of the 5G network creates many emotions. Concerns concern not only the impact of new technology on human health, but also our security. Politics from various countries have concerns about Chinese base station manufacturers who are to provide equipment to operators building new 5G networks. However, the German government is not considering prohibiting the supply of equipment from Huawei and ZTE.
Politicians very often suggest decisions made by the governments of other countries. People watching the telecommunications market are well aware that the Chinese can not count on cooperation with American operators. That’s why Huawei and ZTE are testing 5G technology everywhere, but not in the United States. The second country that banned the construction of the 5G network using Chinese infrastructure equipment is Australia. The ban announced in August was based on the lack of technical solutions that would guarantee the security of the new 5G networks. Government has recognized that it has tools that allow monitoring the security of the LTE network. However, the new technology is more complicated, which does not allow adopting currently used solutions in the field of security. That is why Nadine Schön, vice-president of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, expressed her concern that the 5G networks tested in Germany are largely based on Huawei 5G hardware.
The German government will not impose 5G equipment suppliers on operators
Arne Schönbohm (head of the BSI federal IT security office) replied that Germany would control the security of 5G telecommunications equipment using currently available mechanisms. Simply, any company that will provide telecommunications equipment to German operators will have to meet the same requirements related to IT security. That is why the German branch of T-Mobile is able to continue smoothly with Huawei 5G tests. At the same time, “German magenta” also works with other suppliers. The operators also cooperate with Nokia and Ericsson.
Huawei says openly that the decisions of the US and Australian governments are political, not technical. Until now, no security-related organization has shown that the Chinese government is using Huawei to spy on other countries. The base stations produced by the Chinese now operate in many cellular networks around the world. Representatives of operators and state organizations from Canada, Great Britain, Germany and other countries stressed that they are satisfied with many years of cooperation with a Chinese company. In turn, Huawei realizes that he can not afford to lose confidence. Currently, the telecommunications market of mobile networks belongs to three large players. These are Ericsson, Huawei and Nokia. However, around the corner lurk other companies that want to develop their position on the occasion of the implementation of the 5G network. These are Samsung and ZTE. The Korean Samsung can count on the favour of operators who can not cooperate with the Chinese.
